Trekking in Cordillera Huayhuash

On December 24th, 2002 , Cordillera Huayhuash was declared a Natural Reserve by the Peruvian government. We believe that after the world is informed about the new route that our company outlined, there will be sufficient reasons to consider this circuit The Most Beautiful Trekking Route in the World . This mountain range is located in the Central Andean region in Peru, where the states of Ancash, Huanuco and Lima meet. It extends thirty kilometers from south to north and 10 kilometers from east to west, forming the Peruvian western mountain range. Six of its peaks are over 6,000 meters (19,680 ft.) high, 15 others reach over 5,500 m .(18,040 ft.) and others are a little over 5,200 m .(17,056 ft.) high. Yerupaja is the highest in the mountain range at 6,634 m .(21,760 ft.). It is the second highest in the Peruvian Andes and the highest point in the vast Amazon basin.

Without a doubt, just hearing the name Huayhuash evokes unforgettable memories for those us who are familiar with this circuit. It is an impressive place that simply invites us to discover its amazing surroundings, in completely remote and wild areas. Certainly, these present a challenge for anyone wishing to crown its icy summits. It is a location of unsurpassed beauty, in which we will see mountain ranges branch off, rare species, turquoise-colored glacial lakes, streams, waterfalls and rivers pour their crystalline waters to join the Amazon. Valleys are protected by watchful, snowy sentinels that every so often remind us of their presence with strident sounds that echo in these otherwise quiet areas. The beauty before our eyes is what dreams are made of. Here, one can perceive nature's magic and what it means to our hearts, filled with emotions that can only be inspired by these majestic mountains. We will all coincide in expressing deep admiration for such locations, unique in the world, as we watch in awe the closeness of its impressive, vertical glacial walls.

We are on our way to discover the richness of landscapes and Andean customs of the Cordillera Huayhuash peoples. It is considered one of the most important mountain ranges in Peru and birthplace of ancient indigenous civilizations. Its inhabitants have enriched their cultures through a constant process of contact with diverse and complex ecosystems existing in the Cordillera, overcoming great obstacles and reaching a surprising level of development in spite of the scarcity of resources available. These peoples have domesticated plants and animals since ancient times. They are mystical, religious individuals that worship Mother Earth, mountains, rivers and lakes as part of their traditions. As inhabitants of a mountainous region of impressive and wild beauty; they are eager to take part in experiences oriented towards exchange and collaboration for the preservation of nature and tourism development at the Cordillera Huayhuash National Reserve.
