Transport.- In 1999, there were almost 72,900 kilometers worth of highways. Of these, only 13% were paved. The main road is the Panamerican Highway. At 2,495 km long, it covers Peruvian territory from Ecuador to Chile. The main airport, Jorge Chavez International Airport, is located between Lima and Callao. Other important airports are found in Cuzco, Juliaca, Piura, Arequipa, Trujillo, Puerto Maldonado and Iquitos. Lan Peru is a national airline which offers national and international flighs. The main maritime ports are located in Callao, Chimbote, Salaverry, Pacasmayo, Pita, Matarani, and San Juan. It should be pointed out is that there is massive internet access. For this reason, Peru is considered one of the main users of this service in Latin America .
Communications.- In the year 2000, there were some 64 telephones in use for every 1,000 inhabitants. There are over 300 radio stations and 8 national television networks in addition to cable television.
